Taylor Swift's eighth album is a stark departure from her recent work, as she has transitioned from pop anthems to follow her roots in folk and alternative rock. The entire album has a general feeling of warm nostalgia, a noticeable mixture the album's producers Aaron Dessner of The National, and Jack Antonoff of Bleachers and Fun. Although the album has a noticeable lack of the pop anthems that Swift has been producing in the last few years, she stills maintains her skill in creating music that will be stuck in your head all week. For listeners that were fans of her early work, Folklore is a surprising return to folk-inspired Taylor Swift, with a clear influence from her growth over the last decade.
