Effortless is the second album released by Forrest, better known by his role as one half of the surf-pop group Surfaces. The eight tracks contained on the new album certainly echo the style of his vocal and production work in Surfaces, with a somewhat less refined edge. While it's not filled with the chart-topping hits produced by Surfaces, in this album Forrest takes a step back and has a more experimental take on his personal style. More varied beats, instrumentation, and sampling all contribute to music that strives to break the mold set by the artist's previous work. The lyrics fail to approach the same experimentalism shown in the production, and fall back on the common themes of adolescent ambiguity and generalized positivity statements.
